Welcome back to the blog of WIT, your reference consultancy in Andorra, where we will dive into a vital aspect of life in Andorra and its future: education. Here are the particularities of the educational system in Andorra and its diverse offer.

Common conditions

The Andorran educational system is organized as follows:

Compulsory education includes First and Secondary education, which extends from 6 to 16 years of age.

Optional education consists of two distinct stages. Maternal, begins at 3 years of age. Between the ages of 16 and 18, access to high school or vocational training is possible, followed by university education.

With the exception of private institutions, education is free at all stages. The Andorran government also offers school transportation. Due to the country’s climate, “school skiing” is an integral part of the physical education program in elementary school, integrated into the students’ physical education curriculum.

A wide and quality educational offer

One of the distinctive features of education in Andorra is its wide range of quality offerings. Given its close relationship with Spain and France, as well as the international vision of the country, Andorra offers four educational systems:

Public systems:

  1. Andorran: With Catalan as the vehicular language, it is the country’s own system. It is based on the rights, freedoms and principles established in the Andorran Constitution and in the Qualified Law on Education and follows European guidelines on education.
  2. Spanish: Based on the Spanish educational curriculum. There is an agreement between the Government of the Principality of Andorra and the Government of the Kingdom of Spain to maintain a Spanish public education system in Andorra composed of centers that comply with the instructions of the Spanish Ministry of Education.
  3. French: Following the French educational model, the educational agreement between the Government of Andorra and the French Republic guarantees public education in French institutions within the Principality, allowing also to follow educational programs in French public institutions.
